Juan Diego CalleThere haven't been any new top-level domains in over five years - but that doesn't mean the Internet has been stationary.

One of the most remarkable success stories in recent times has been the relaunch and reinvention of Colombia's dot-co top-level domain. Last year, this small and little-known TLD suddenly became the hot piece of new property on the Internet.

And much of that was due to our keynote speaker Juan Diego Calle.

As President and CEO of the .CO registry, Juan Diego's team was selected by the Colombian government to remake and remarket their Internet space. And what he and his team achieved has been held out as an example to follow.

Everything from the marketing to the messaging to the interactions with the industry to the launch of the registry was carefully thought through and superbly executed.

And that is why we asked Juan Diego to give the keynote on the second day of .nxt - a day that is all about the future of the Internet naming systems: the new models, the new approaches, and also how to market and manage those plans.

For those that saw his speech at the ICANN meeting in Cartagena in December 2010, you will already know that you are in for a treat. Despite being the least-known of five speakers including the country's president, he got the greatest reception as he outlined the opportunities as well as the challenges of the forthcoming new gTLD revolution.

Put simply: the dot-co recent relaunch is the perfect case study for new gTLD applicants, and Juan Diego Calle was the man who made it happen. So you'd be well advised to come listen to his insights at .nxt.

Here is a video of the speech itself:
